KINTSUGI 2018/19
KINTSUGI is based on the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramic goods with golden joinery. This word came from a journey with producing these garments, asubstantiating the idea that one’s scars and tribulations should be proudly celebrated, and that something is more beautiful having gone through strife. Brokenness, repair, and triumph are the central themes that promoted these designs. Each gown is named after a flower and silhouettes and the general vibe of each piece lend to their choice of name but these flowers also represent the spirit of the women Charles has encountered in his life and are immortalised in each design. The strength and phase of each woman is interpreted through softness, hardness, transparency, and structure which is a visual representation of the poetic emotional inspiration they have infused in the designer.
